Gssync Blackscreen - Tue, Oct 1, 2024
Recently I fixed an issue where an updated nvidia driver that was causing a five second black screens on my Samsung G95SC.
tldr
The update re-enabled gsync, I had to enable HDR10+ GAMING to disable it.
Today upon updating my computers graphics drivers with the nvidia desktop app I was treated to a fun bug where when alt tabbing from any application what was Fullscreen or borderless windowed there would be a five second black screen that I would have to sit at before getting to whatever I alt tabbed to. Now ive been dealing with issues on my Samsung G95SC where HDMI just no longer works for whatever reason. So piling this onto everything instantly made me frustrated enough to figure out the issue and a potential solution.
The issue
Upon doing a clean install of my graphics drivers I was treated to a notification that was basically telling me what the problem was but it took me a while of searching to figure it out. The update re-enabled Nvidia Gsync as my monitor is G-Sync compatable by design. The issue being is that in order to truely enable it a setting on the monitor must also be enabled in order to disable it. So any attempts to visit the nvidia control pannel and turn it off was met with the gsync tab being missing alltogther!
The resolution
Under the gaming options in the settings for the Samsung G95SC there is a HDR10+ setting which must be enabled in order for gysnc to be enabled. Once this is enabled then magically the gsync option under nvidia control pannel will appear. Now you can go back to the nvidia control pannel and disable gsync. That should fix the delay that gsync causes when alt tabbing between an application that it is syncing to.
